blu-ray drive trouble

New postby thefixer on Tue Feb 09, 2010 12:37 am

i got a problem. after i moved my blu-ray drive to the sata raid card something wierd happened. when i put a blank disc in it to record vista gets all wonky. the iso burner loses the drive and when i go into my computer the info won't load. i have to put a dvd into the drive for windows vista to go back to normal. the drive is a recorder and worked fine when it was plugged into the mobo sata port.

I got nothing for you, but, I do know, that if you take the player apart, you have a really cool laser diode, that you can hack to do alot of stuff with.

i took a closer look at the box the sata card came in. it says it is compatible only with windows xp and windows 2k. is this a solid reason the drive and vista crap out when i put a blank disk in it?

Fixer, you may have compatibility built in to the Win7 system. That means you may have to actually remove any old drivers. Did you actually upgrade yet? if not, go HERE and d/l, install and run the win7 compatibility advisor. It will tell you what on your system can't cut it without new drivers, etc.

But you knew that already, didn't you?

One of the things that Ms. Komando often suggests is the checking (and updating) of drivers. This reminds me of a video card (ATI) that I put into a new build a long time ago. Upon boot, I was getting video, but not the high resolution video. Went through Windows Update, and found a newer driver for that card (ATI's site was down) and loaded it; the problem went away.

Geez, all this is making me think I should get started on a new PC "build" sooner rather than later. :ugeek:

I generally buy mobo kits from tigerdirect or NewEgg. They usually have a great deal going between them. Mobo, Chip, memory, and a good fan for around $125-250.

Gotta upgrade my hard drives. All are PATA, yet the new mobos only have one onboard cable connection. Need it for one DVD and one hard drive.

But you knew that already, didn't you?
