I was getting some Del Monicos for the son and I, and it was staring at me. Mark Sheppard said it has been there longer than he has, and that it was his Father who might have gotten it.

Not finding it in the 1935 directory. I vaguely remember Bond Paper from my teenage years at Pudgie's.

According to my 1968 phone book, Bond Paper Co. was located at 201 E Second Street. They were a wholesale paper company.

That address is where the Elm Chevy car lot is.

Mark is still doing a great job. Interesting to talk to, and friendly. I could not ask for more in a butcher. He also cuts a mean steak.

Bond Paper Co. was bought out by Waight Paper Company, and moved to the Industrial Park. They in turn were bought out by D.J. Mead Co out of Buffalo. i used to be the receptionist there. that's how i know. not sure if they are still there, but they were back in the mid 80's.

If I remember correctly (been a lot of years), Rubin Auto Parts was run by Harold Berman. Bond Paper (Karen - you worked there? When?) was run by Norman Rubin, whose son ran a division (WireWorks) that sold display racks, while another ran DynaPak - their retail packaging division. The name was said to have been the creation of Robert K. Watkins (not the one from Corning), who, with Oscar F. Mayes left to own the Horwitz Paper and Packaging Company at 100 East Church Street (later moved to Philo Rd. West in Horseheads). Bob Watkins said he had seen a variation of the name on a roller at a highway construction site. Bond moved from the 201 E. 2nd St. location to just up the street (Baldwin St.) and merged with Queen City Paper Co. (~1980?). The site at 201 East Second St. had been that of a gas station where my father, my uncle, and another guy did business in the mid-1940's. I really wish I could find pictures of that. Yes, it is a small world. :herb:

i worked for Waight Paper Company, that was later bought by D.J. Mead out of Buffalo. that was when my oldest was like 2, so it was 25 years ago or so. at the time i worked for them, they were in the Horseheads Industrial Complex. not sure if they even still exist. at the time i worked for them, their biggest client was Flickingers.

Holy Old Thread, Batman! :-o

I had to bring this up again as I was looking to see if anybody knows what happened to Horwitz Supply and Image Packaging; the former being on Upper Oakwood Avenue and the latter having been on Philo Road (at the end of the paved section). Drove by the Upper Oakwood site and saw "Sansolutions" (closed) and decided to see if Image was still on Philo... it is not.

Any word on where they went?

I had a client recently that worked at Horwitz until they closed last summer.  She said the employees went in to work on a Monday as scheduled and the doors were locked and they all discovered they no longer had a job.  I think she said about 30 people in all were involved.  She said she was never given a reason for the closing.  Strangest thing!
