"Elmira is the center of the universe," chapter 3,372 - According to this article: http://www.historyne...-neta-snook.htm the woman who taught Amelia Erheart how to fly, Anita Snook, worked in this plant and rebuilt her plane with an OX-5 engine built in this plant. Yes, you heard it - Amelia Erheart learned to fly in a plane whose engine was built in Elmira.
But you knew that already, didn't you?

Ok, is this like the Kevin Bacon game, where you figure out the closest link you have to Kevin Bacon, but instead of Kevin, we use Elmira? We were a hub for this country for quite a while, I wouldn't be surprised about having our Elmiran fingers in many cool pies.

I have raised my children, here in Cleveland Ohio, to understand that Elmira New York is the Center of the Universe. I prove it with the Kennedy Valve hydrants located everywhere. 8-)
But you knew that already, didn't you?

I have a good one: when I was in Okinawa, the guy who ran the...uhh, Not-So-Legal Mature Video 8-) "* store was an EFA grad.*Those would be legal here, BTW. Any below-the-waist shots had to be pixillated or blocked in Japan.

Her name is Terry Hall (I'm not sure of the spelling of her first name). Her family lived on Church St in West Elmira. She passed away in the past 1-2 years.I don't know her personally, but it is my understanding that her's was not a very good life. Pretty messed up.

Yep, Ralph, absolutely right!Back to the "Elmira, Center of the Universe" thing: Somewhere in Holland is the platen grinding machine (kind of like a lathe with a grinding wheel on it) that I used to operate there. Went to take my break one day, came back and the machine was being disconnected for shipment to Holland!

Wow, that's a kick in the stomach!! I guess they didn't ship you to Holland? Were you unemployed shortly thereafter?

No, they left me here in the good ole U.S. of A. but transferred me to a "frame rail" dept that I hated but thanks for asking.

I'm always up for a good chuckle (no disrespect intended). Can you record it as a .wav file and send it to me. I'll PM an Email address if you're interested.

An earlier Postcard, marked 1916. Note that this appears to be a painting and not a retouched photo. Doesn't seem to have much to do with the actual layout of the plant as we know it. It _appears_ to be looking southeast.Posted ImagePosted Image
