You know, who would think that fire hydrants are actually that interesting. I spent 20 minutes on that webs site, I don't spend 20 minutes on any website.

My girlfriends father has been there for 40 or more years. First job he had right out of State school and he's kept it ever since. Gonna see if he had a hand in making any of those models...

That is and interesting web site. Does anybody have a picture of the chrome plated hydrant that was/is in Strathmont in front of the Kennedy house?

I was in Elmira (briefly) today and managed to squeeze in a shot of that hydrant; it is at 142 Drive A, and has obviously been neglected:Posted Image

I'd suggest cleaning it, but Antiques Roadshow has me paranoid of cleaning or polishing anything because it would ruin the patina.

This is from a different plant - maybe the city our forebearers raided to get Kennedy to move to Elmira...Posted Image

The picture shows "Chesackie" as the factory location. The reference to "Cortland" is the telephone exchange. For example, Elmira's exchange used to be "Regent". How many remember that?I did a search in Street Atlas for "Chesackie" and came up with nothing. Maybe it's Coxsackie, as you said Bill. This will require more research to find the actual city that originally housed Kennedy Valve. ;)
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not so sure..

www.kennedyvalve.com/history.html1890 - To provide larger manufacturing facilities, the plant is moved to Coxsackie, New York. The D. Kennedy firm becomes the Kennedy Valve Manufacturing Co.

For what it is worth, I remember the "Regent" telephone exchange. I have a vague recollection of before Regent when everyone had 5 digit phone number. As I remember it the use of the term Regent was short-lived and everyone just used 7,3. Ah, the good old days, when Elmira only had one phone exchange.
Ya gotta be a little insane to keep your sanity!
