If you’ve got a business -- you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen.
Barack Obama - July 13, 2012

Yep. That's right.

That is why the government is perfectly justified in taking from you the profits of your business.

What is really disturbing is that he seems to be channeling Elizabeth (Cherokee Princess) Warren:

"There is nobody in this country who got rich on his own. Nobody. You built a factory out there - good for you. But I want to be clear. You moved your goods to market on the roads the rest of us paid for. You hired workers the rest of us paid to educate. You were safe in your factory because of police forces and fire forces that the rest of us paid for. You didn't have to worry that marauding bands would come and seize everything at your factory... Now look. You built a factory and it turned into something terrific or a great idea - God Bless! Keep a Big Hunk of it. But part of the underlying social contract is you take a hunk of that and pay forward for the next kid who comes along."
- Elizabeth Warren

-look, if you’ve been successful, you didn’t get there on your own. You didn’t get there on your own. I’m always struck by people who think, well, it must be because I was just so smart. There are a lot of smart people out there. It must be because I worked harder than everybody else. Let me tell you something -- there are a whole bunch of hardworking people out there.
If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you’ve got a business -- you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen. The Internet didn’t get invented on its own. Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet.
Barrack Obama

How could such an idiot ever get elected president? Must be he got a little help from someone along the line. I would love to know exactly who.

The press release would be more aptly named:
Remarks by the President and His Adoring Followers at a Campaign Event in Roanoke, Virginia

I cannot recall any President (nor presidential staff) including audience remarks in the release of a speech transcript. This clown is trying to tell people, "I am great... I am wonderful, and darn it, people love me!"

Pathetic.

There are a lot of wealthy, successful Americans who agree with me -- because they want to give something back. They know they didn’t -- look, if you’ve been successful, you didn’t get there on your own. You didn’t get there on your own. I’m always struck by people who think, well, it must be because I was just so smart. There are a lot of smart people out there. It must be because I worked harder than everybody else. Let me tell you something -- there are a whole bunch of hardworking people out there. (Applause.)

The point is, is that when we succeed, we succeed because of our individual initiative, but also because we do things together. There are some things, just like fighting fires, we don’t do on our own. I mean, imagine if everybody had their own fire service. That would be a hard way to organize fighting fires.

Here it is in context. So, according to Obama, nothing gets done by individuals alone; everyone needs government help to succeed.

Bullshit!

Before there were public schools... before there were paved roads... before there were sewers and electric lines there were businesses!

Before government interference people were still creating new and amazing products and services...

Fuck you MaObama!

The "context" hasn't changed the conclusion which I stated in the opening post:

Or, another way of saying it, "you are not personally entitled to all of the profits of your business, since government helped you to achieve your success."

I thought this factor was already accounted for by taxation of the business, but apparently that's not enough.

The fact he specifically said,
If you've got a business - you didn't build that

Indicates to me he thinks taking taxation of profits to an extreme is an acceptable method to pay for government. He truly believes government is the answer, not the problem.

I know in most places buisnesses pay proportionally higher taxes than individuals ,so you non buisness owners should be thanking us buisness owners for carrying more than our fair share of your tax burden .
Of course if you suck up to enough politicians you can get corporate welfare .

NFIB hits back:

In a hard-hitting statement to Mail Online, the National Federation of Independent Businesses (NFIB) said: 'What a disappointment to hear President Obama's revealing comments challenging the significance of America's entrepreneurs.

'His unfortunate remarks over the weekend show an utter lack of understanding and appreciation for the people who take a huge personal risk and work endless hours to start a business and create jobs.'

'I'm sure every small-business owner who took a second mortgage on their home, maxed out their credit cards or borrowed money from their own retirement savings to start their business disagrees strongly with President Obama's claim. They know that hard work does matter.

'Every small business is not indebted to the government or some other benefactor. If anything, small businesses are historically an economic and job-creating powerhouse in spite of the government.'

From Mitt Romney yesterday:

In Irwin Pennsylvania today, Mitt Romney criticized President Obama’s comments about small business, questioning the president’s understanding of the American way of life.

“The idea that Steve Jobs didn’t build Apple, that Henry Ford didn’t build Ford Motors, that Papa John didn’t build Papa Johns, that Ray Kroc didn’t build McDonalds, that Bill Gates didn’t build Microsoft. . . to say something like that is not just foolishness, it's insulting to every entrepreneur, every innovator in America and it’s wrong,” Romney said.
