East Church Street

City of Elmira

Chemung County

Announcement of Public Open House

There will be a public open house for the East Church Street Project on Thursday, June 14th, 2012 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Chemung County Chamber of Commerce Building, 400 East Church Street. This is a Federally-aided project, with 95% of the funding coming from state and federal sources.

The purpose of the project is to improve the condition of pavement, curb, and sidewalk along East Church Street from the Clemens Center Parkway to Madison Avenue. The project would enhance safety for pedestrians and provide consistent lighting along the corridor. Construction is expected to begin in the spring of 2013 and be complete before fall of 2013.

Please feel free to stop in and review displays regarding the project at any time during the two hour event. Representatives from the Department of Public Works and the project design team will be available to answer questions and discuss the proposed work. For interested parties, there will be a brief presentation describing the project at 5:00 PM.

Obtaining your input is an important part of the design process. We look forward to personally meeting you and listening to your thoughts and concerns about the project.

Must be the same deal as the Broadway project.
Btw ,saw lots of activity in riverfront park yesterday . Monterey inmates redoing the sidewalk pavers and a pad being poured for the statue of Adam (?)

At least they're not using "Brownies" to pour the concrete ! :-o But isn't it funny how the "Unions" fold when the coffer's get near to being empty ? "Inmate" labor ! My god, it's been there for Decade's and they just realized it was free ? Sure hope the C.O. in charge of those Inmates realizes where the "Homeless" denizens hide their booze though.... 8-)

Need to see more inmate labor IMHO . Cleaning the parks ,sweeping the streets ,picking up trash along the highways ,scrubbing graffiti off the walls . They should not be in their cells watching cable T.V.

But, but...

If we don't spend it, someone else will.

We can't let unused grant money not get borrowed or used to pay off the deficit, that would be criminal!

Strange, if everyone decided to say no, then that money would just sit around being useless. But, I gather, one can not ever count out the other guys greed.

Something tells me the folks in DC would figure out how to put in their own pockets if it sat there for long. Now, if we could stop it from heading into the 'fund' to begin with maybe we could apply it where it would benefit the ones who are earning it, with their own judgement and out of their own pockets...
