It's happening in Ithaca; why can't it happen here? Idea so simple it hurts.http://www.ithaca.com/news/article_e75ef3fa-5330-11e1-94cd-0019bb2963f4.html

I know Ron Panosian is giving away office space, but has no takers.

There's this little thing called publicity. Are people aware of it? I wasn't until you mentioned it.

Free rent for a year may attract any vendor. You survive, good for you. You survive and attract others, generating more interest/traffic, even better. You survive, participate in turning the area around, increase the value of the properties; the formerly vacant buildings start generating some income for their owners (instead of falling apart and needing to be demolished). I mean, it IS simple, logical, isn't it? Why cannot it be done HERE????

Yeah, I fix computers.

There is a lot of people who are interested in making Elmira, if not necessarily a major tourist magnet, a place that people would want to live in. I'm one of them. I work in Ithaca, so I'm aware if its cultural superiority. It'd be impossible to match what they have to offer. But it doesn't stop me from wanting a local area I could go window shopping, if only for a couple of blocks.

Yeah, I fix computers.

Scum like these who destroy Eldridge park with their 4x4s and SUVs? You know, those whose vandalism doesn't bother you a bit? If you see Elmira as a place you are not fond of (sans the obvious Jackals' tribute in your nickname) then why, if I may ask, do you live here (if you do)?West Water street block between Main and College can still attract people. Doesn't anybody remember how popular the street painting festival was? People poured onto the streets as if waiting for Elmira's rebirth. & Bakery, with its magic karma, can create a niche that can expand in time. Can we get Panosian to join us here and confirm that the free rent is a real deal? Artists' studios, boutiques, things like these come to my mind.

Yeah, I fix computers.

Ron is a sharp and nice guy . If I get a chance I will give him a call in the next few days and see what's up .

I still live here because I am finishing up school at the moment. If I weren't I would be elsewhere. I suppose it doesn't bother me, it's just the fact of the matter. It is what it is. I didn't say I like it, but even so I can accept the fact.Even West Elmira which was once nice is starting to go to hell a bit with hoodlums around. You used to never hear of anything going on over there.

The world is a big place, with some pretty special places, and some really hellish places. YOu ought to get out into it Diehard and see it for yourself. Elmira, with all of it's warts is heaven on earth compared to 85% of the rest of the world. If you do succumb to wanderlust, and do a tour out there, when you return, you will be amazed at how your viewpoint has has changed.

Arts in the Park. Use to draw thousands when it was up and running. Just like the Race Day's that use to block off Main street for a few day's every year. And then there were none ! Funny how things that succeed end up disappearing without notice around here. And since they are attempting to spruce up River Front Park there should be functions there every weekend.

There must be something to the 2012 "end of the world" predictions. I find myself agreeing with Herb yet again ! LOL

I'd love to have a small sushi joint downtown. Not a Chinese/Japanese combo; just a place that would serve rolls, sashimi, tempura. Udon stuff would be great, but that's another story. I'd rather go there than to Wegmans, even if the quality of food was just as bad as what they have over there (sushi-wise.). Even better would be having two places, couple of buildings apart, one serving noodle dishes, the other sushi/sashimi.What would YOU like to see opening downtown?

Yeah, I fix computers.
