I was informed today by a VERY reliable source that works in the upper hiearchy of the DEC in Albany that the Leadership for Chemung County is engaged in negotiations to make Chemung County the initial permiter in the process for hydrofracking, to take place BEFORE regs are established, as early as late spring. I'm not sure at this point whether that's good or bad. However, based on the track record of this countiy's lack of transparecy, it raises, if not a red flag, at the least a handkerchief with me. Haven't been able to confirm this as of yet from a second source, so as of now it rests as rumor rather than stone cold fact. I'll keep trying to confirm.

I recall reading a while back that permits were being applied for or issued for the towns of Erin and Baldwin, both considered to be a hotspot for huge gas reserves. ( My own "hot tip" years ago indicated there is a HUGE pocket under our property. )

The money will ease the sting Chris. I assure you. Especially when the boys are getting ready for college. Which will happen faster than you can even imagine.

Any lease we sign, IF we sign, will be a "non surface" lease. I like my view the way it is.

Once they get the well in, you won't see anything, but maybe a fire hydrant sized valve, hidden.

A politician wouldn't lie would they?http://www.stargazette.com/article/20120207/NEWS01/202070345/DEC-Some-hydrofracking-permits-conceivable-2012?odyssey=tab|topnews|text|FRONTPAGE

When Assemblywoman Barbara Lifton, D-Ithaca, asked about "persistent rumors" in Albany that the state may be working on some sort of hydrofracking pilot program in the Southern Tier before the DEC's permitting guidelines are in place, Martens said that's not the case."I'm not aware of the rumor, and I can not conceive of any mechanism that would allow us to go forward with a pilot outside of our (permitting guideline) process," (Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner Joe) Martens said. "You can lay your ears to rest."

I know that, but it's that in between period I don't want to deal with. Nor do I want to give them unfettered access to our land by contract. Everyone around me has signed anyway, many under the impression you get more money if they drill on your land, so there's little incentive for us to. I can negotiate 20% royalties and per acre on a "non development" lease just as easily. But I have to confess, there is a glitch in our deed from the 1930's regarding our mineral rights leaving us only owning a portion of said royalties. I nearly killed a lawyer the day I learned this. So I'm not signing off on all that bullshit for a fraction of what is rightfully ours, if not legally. They want it, they'll have to get it another way. We'll still make our money. ( or at least a fraction of it :fury: )

Check with your title insurance, Chris. Maybe a payout there or the "glitch" reverted.
But you knew that already, didn't you?

according to the Times Union this AM, hydrofracking could start in late spring. Info cites the Gov as the source.
