Just came in to the Hot-Tip line:

Regarding First Arena, I have heard from numerous sources that the Arena has in fact been sold to Terry Pegula (owner of the Buffalo Sabres). Afr sold the arena only, refused to sell the team. Pegula will be bringing a team in, I've heard a name of the team but I am not comfortable enough to release the team name. I honestly hope that this is accurate and that there are changes in the entire Arena, not just ownership.

Anyone else confirm?

If it is indeed happening it is being kept very quiet. I would be surprised if Afr could sell the arena without STEG ? approval . I believe he owns the franchise for the hockey team ,but can't move it without league approval .This could all be going on but I don't believe it's a done deal yet .

I have an impeccable source who is saying that this is not happening. We need some confirmation one way or another.

Knowing how the hockey world works ,I tend to agree that this is not happening ,although it could be being discussed . Moving teams around doesn't happen secretly and no one would even try with out a guarenteed facility . The scenario doesn't make sense .

And that right there is pretty good confirmation for me. Chuck knows a lot of things, but he knows hockey most of all.

One thing I am certain of ,if this happens in won't happen behind closed doors .It will have to see the light of day to ever be finalized .

We've heard from someone working for the arena that it's not true, but I'm guessing employees have been sworn to secrecy, as is usually the case when businesses are being sold. Guess time will tell.
Maybe your perception needs tweaking.

I hate waiting, but I enjoy the back and forth of "Is It" or "Is It Not".

Maybe, or a piece of information, when fitted into a larger whole, presents a clearer picture.Your choice as to what to believe.

http://www.wetmtv.co...wdwhsPuSqg.cspxThis has resparked rumors (if they ever really went away in the first place) that the arena (not team) has been sold to the owner of the Sabres. Word is, when the rink sells, both Robbie Nichols and Don would be out of jobs.

That guest comment above was from me - I posted from work, thinking I was logged in, but guess wasn't!That is quite interesting. I'll be at the rink throughout the weekend, and will listen for new rumblings.

I'm in the "pre-Autumn" of my life....  I liked summer better.

From today's SG: "Also on Friday night, Jackals General Manager Robbie Nichols said he's leaving his position.Nichols said he couldn't give specifics behind the decision until an official announcement is made, though it doesn't involve the sale of the team. Nichols said he's not leaving the area."It was my understanding that the arena was to be sold, not the team. If the above rings true, this changes things.
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not so sure..

I've heard that the rumor to believe is that the arena IS being sold at the end of the season to the Sabres owner. The Jackals will be folded and a new team is coming in...a successful team from down south somewhere that isn't getting a lot of community support. Nichols' wife along with Don Lewis (former assistant GM of First Arena) have purchased the Pioneers.
Maybe your perception needs tweaking.

I'm sure Mr.Nichols was asked to resign due to the purchase of the Pioneers . His wife as the owner was a thinly veiled attempt to avoid a contract violation .At least it would seem that way to me .Leaving now will also give him a head start at selling advertiseing for the Pioneers without being in violation of his contract . I am sure Afr blew his stack over the whole thing .The reports I have heard are that the Jackels are losing money big time this season while they are in first place so it makes no sense to move another team in if the current team is losing money .Obvoiusly putting a winner on the ice is not the issue to makeing money in Elmira .
