this just infuriates me. We pay a ridiculous amount in taxes to be near a certain school and to find out that my little one won't be attending said school, where his older brother WILL be attending, when he starts burns my ass. I was really holding out hope that all this consolidation talk would be just that...Holy Family better be ready for increased enrollment.

Holy family can handle the enrollment. Problem is, you will still be paying taxes to the ECSD, and get not a thing in return.

So whats going on here? That looks interesting.Isn't Holy Family closing it's doors? Or moving into Notre Dame(or something like that, I just know the current teachers aren't guranteed to go where the school is) Can't imagine the tuition cost for that place a year if Notre Dame is that bad. Why would parents opt to send their kids to HF if they gotta pay versus somewhere else even if the locale is not necessarily ideal?

Why did I pay to send my kids to private school, even though I pay an obscene amount of money in school taxes? That is the age old question between a private school education and a public school education.

When is this all to take place? and why isn't this up for a vote by the tax payers? Is the ECSD an entity to it self? We have no say about any of this ?

I've heard ECSD doesn't need a public vote because they'll be using money they already have - a vote would only be necessary if more tax money is needed. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I posted these propositions a while back. http://www.ielmira.c...__fromsearch__1 As far as what I've been told, this is not up for a vote. They will be using their own funds (what? they have funds?) for this. No matter which one they go with, they all suck for people who pay to live in a certain area. I'll probably say say screw ECSD all together and move to another district. Insane.

We get to rely on Joe Hochreiter to do the right thing. Hopefully he can get it wrapped up before he leaves for his new position.

Don't you have to pay taxes for private schools on top of tuition? My guess would be a private school tuition is more than paying for school taxes. Plus private schools probably don't have the resources to give one as good of an education on the regular, In the future ND is gunna have a tough time keeping its doors opened.

I think accountability is the main reason we went with private schools. I evaluate my child's education every semester, holding my children to standards, if they do not live up to my standards, they would be pulled out. So far they have. On the other side of that coin, I expect the school to be responsive to my issues, and so far, the schools have been. They have not ever given me "Thats policy" kind of answer. Billy is petitioning for an advanced physics program, we will see if it falls on deaf ears or if they are open to it. That will be an interesting take. But, to your original point, I have zero interest in the fluff that public schools provide, I want my kids to be fluent in math and science and literature. I don't care if they have diversity classes, or any of the silly stuff public schools spend time on.

reminds me of being able to take an advanced Chem program as a Jr...this would hacve never flown in a piblic school...maybe a Sr but not a Jr...but with some persistance and recomemdations ND got it done for me and it was a HUGE benefit in later yrs!! ND has Always done right by me!! And i would have Dug advanced physics....but sigh there was only soo much time...plus the physics in college was realitivly easy compared to the Chem....took more Chemestry than a Chemistry major...and a drum major for that matter!! lol

not so many private schools around. ND's pricing is ridiculous. More than a semester at CCC. I can't imagine in a decade their doors will still be open. There aren't that many families left in Chemung County that can fit the bill for that place. It's not a secret attendance is decreasing.
