At the request of the Mayor and the City Manager, the City of Elmira’s Department of Public Services will be picking up downed branches from this past week’s ice storms. This includes branches from street trees and privately owned trees. Neatly stacked branches will be picked up from the curb until 3:30pm on Friday, March 14, 2008.

To facilitate this process, and to insure that your branches are not missed, please call 737-5750 to make arrangements to remove any tree branches. Residents who do not call this number risk the possibility of their branches being left at the curb. After March 14, 2008, private branches will no longer be removed.

The county’s correctional facility has received a seal of approval from the New York State Sheriff’s Association.

Gov. Eliot Spitzer (Democrat), whose career has centered on high ethical standards and rooting out corruption, apologized Monday after allegedly being caught on a federal wiretap planning to meet last month with a prostitute at a hotel in Washington, D.C.

Just an editorial note, I added the Democrat tag, as it seems our non-biased media did not want to actually acknowledge that Spitzer is a democrat. What do I have to say about this? I could care less where he dips his wick, that is between his wife and he, for all we know, she could care less.

I am rather perturbed at the hypocrisy of his catering prostitutes when he put many a working woman out of a job. He seemed to have a real…hard on for busting large scale prostitution rings, well, other than the one he was using.

Chemung County legislators on Monday granted themselves the same salary increase that most county employees got.

Whew, and I was holding my breath to see which way they would come down on this. I have to say, I am pretty amazed that they just topped at 4%, I mean, they do such good work and provide such a valuable service to the rest of us, 500% or even 900% would have been acceptable. Right?
