Good Samaritans, didn’t like graffiti. Anyone running windows will get a laugh out of this, I just feel smugly superior.

“Everyone is a security guard. Meaning Every student, Every faculty member, the maintenance staff, the cafeteria workers, everyone has a responsibility to report things they see to make it a safe place.”

School Security

Elmira Police and School Officials are looking for advice from other school districts to make your child’s school safer. How about letting parents carry in the schools, or event he novel idea of allowing the students to actually defend themselves. Get rid of zero tolerance idiocy.

I must have missed something here. I watched the news report when he said it. I thought it wasn’t a new idea but was and old one with merit. It just surprised me that it was said as if it were a new idea.

But I guess some feel the need to repeat the obvious.

Don’t we all have a certain responsibility to be vigilant and report criminal activity when we see it? The accompanying ‘big brother’ picture is a bit extreme, is it not?

No, we do not have a responsibility to report criminal activity, we have a responsibility to stop criminal activity.

There isn’t always mommy or a teacher to run and tell when the bad man is breaking a law. Sometimes, we have to act like adults and slap some smarts into another person. Otherwise, we might as well all walk around with bike helmets on (To protect us form getting a bump on our heads), wearing teeth guards (To protect our teeth) in sumo suits, with built in cell phones that automatically dial 911 if it sense raised heart beats. It wouldn’t;t actually have to say anything into the phone, it would just bleeet and the 911 operator would send out the shepherd to keep us safe.

    Raw nerve? You bethca.

That is one of your finer points, Bill. You have the ability express your disagreement without calling names. Very refreshing given some recent posts, my friend.

I agree we all must react as adults. My action upon seeing criminal activity would be to report it. At this point in my life I don’t think I could physically stop anyone from engaging in criminal activity but I am capable of challenging a perp and for sure am capable of reporting it and following up.

The kind of crimes we are discussing here (Vandalism) are crimes of opportunity. You, just being there will stop it. Report it for sure, as the police department must keep up it’s numbers to justify it’s budget next year, but let the idiots doing the vandalism know they have been seen. That ought to be enough.

Vandals, cockroaches and rats abhor the light.

Right you are! Just being there will help stop it. But, Bill, I can’t be everywhere at once so I can’t do it all by myself! I need help!
