Bill, thanks for the pictures! I love sparkle! We didn’t go this year; my call, I thought it was too cold for our youngest that is getting over a real bad cold…I hope you all had fun! :)

I’ve attended in past years but felt it was too cold today. Sparkle is always a delightful event to attend. Looking at your pictures it appears not too many attended this event on Saturday.

Dickens Christmas in Wellsboro is always a wonderful event, too! REALLY a great Christmas celebration down there!

Wach, we were killing time until a band that a friend of ours is in started playing (Townhouse tavern, south corning, don’t hold me to the name though). They did a workman like job covering 60’s, 70’s and 80’s music.

Sparkle seemed….thin, every other vendor spot was empty, and when we were there, just a small spattering of people. I have to say, the idea of setting up the Free Hot Chocolate booth, right next to the over priced hot chocolate booth was genius, I could buy a cup of Cocoa, and then feel guilty for another 20 minutes. Sorta like my childhood friends Jewish mothers.

Nina, cold was not the word for it, while 22 degrees was the temperature when we were hugging the building, out, in the middle of the street, with a steady 10 mile an hour wind, it was hovering around the single digit mark. MY daughter tells me that more people were expected after we left, I pitied them.

Wach, We had stopped in the Mall before going up there (I am looking for a new jacket, but the crap that passes for winter level jackets in this area was mind boggling). I did see a whole slew of young girls, though (Hubba-Hubba), er, I mean, mall ratting. The place was crawling with 11 to 15 year olds. Someones daughter seemed to be having a great time. Like mother, like daughter?

Just a quick question. Why couldn’t Elmira have something like this ? It seems to me that Jennifer Herrick, instead of concentrating on putting benches and lighting in the Weis area maybe she should be thinking of a Winter tradition for Downtown. We have the Riverfront Park and the locations for many vendors.
And we also have the History to draw people to the area if there is something to come for. Mark Twain, Hal Roach (Little Rascals Festival maybe ? ) and the list seems to be endless. Come on Ms. Herrick, use that noggin and do us right. Painting the windows has been done to death over the years and so have awnings. Being able to sit down under a light on second street is just not my idea of a draw to Downtown. Anyone else ? The parade is great, but it only lasts for a short time and people pack up and leave when its over.

I nominate you herb, and I want to cast a vote for a Little Rascal Festival (Are any still alive?) That would be some good fun. I would be happy to donate some money too herb, let me know what you need!

To Sue and the politicians reading this, make this happen. We have a leader, and an objective, now smooth the way.

    Robert Blake is still alive.

There are any number of festival possibilities. One really doesn’t need a reason to have a festival. Saturday Night on the Town, Battle of the Bands, Trash Day, Music in the Park, October Fests, glass blowing demonstrations, Arts in the Park, Antiques in the Park, Crafts in the Park, Old Tyme Days, Remote Controlled Water Boats the Park, the possibilities are endless!

The reason we don’t have any festivals, IMHO, is because no one promotes a festival. We have the park downtown. Why not use it?

Robert Blacke? I would prefer he did not represent my adopted home town. There has to be someone better than Robert Blake?

Careful Nina, you are skating dangerously close to the “I nominate Nina…” edge.

I had a big crush on Alfalfa when I was a wee tot. If there is a festival, I want to dress up like Darla.
